The Voice of My Generation Is Gone: Whitney Houston...

This is the only picture that I could find that represented everything that I saw in Whitney Elizabeth Houston. I found out earlier this evening that Ms. Houston was found dead around 3:50 PM today in Beverly Hills, CA. I spoke with my mom and aunt for over four hours. We were just in disbelief regarding the news. I am just now writing something, because I know that I have to in order to accept the devastating news.

Whitney died tonight at the age of 48 years young, and on the night before the Grammy Music Awards. She was not only a singer, she was a woman of class and grace! Her career began in Newark, New Jersey, where she sang in the choir at an early age.

I remember being introduced to this classy diva through my mother. I would listen to a lot of music that she listened to and Whitney was on her list. Since that time, I have always been a fan of her smooth sound. Not only was that voice smooth, it could go anywhere that it wanted too. Whitney Elizabeth Houston was the first African American female to be feature on Seventeen Magazine and she was a mezzo-sopranist.

Whitney Houston married Bobby Brown in the nineties. I have some strong feelings about their relationship, but I have come to understand that she saw something in him that we did not see. I believe that her addiction to drugs paralled out of control while in the relationship with him. Yet, they produced a beautiful baby, Bobby Kristina Brown. Ms. Houston had an undying love for her daughter and you could see it too.

I have so many favorite tracks by Whitney Houston that I could not list them all. I will forever wonder why the greats in my culture have to leave this earth. Though, I know in my heart that where they are is far better than on earth. I  will always remember Whitney Houston being independent, proud of her heritage, and stood until she could not stand any longer. And, the countless awards that she received during her career are too many to even calculate.

Black History 2012 has been very touching for my culture this year. We have lost four great individuals in the span of three weeks. No one will ever be able to step in Whitney Elizabeth Houston's shoes. She will forever be a person that I admire and definitely will miss.
